Pastor’s Letter
May-August 2011
I am currently working on a message from chapters 3 and 4 of the book of Acts. My theme will be the type of individual the Lord can use to build His church. While Matthew 16 explicitly states that Christ will build His church, we all know He does that through individuals that are committed to Him.
The dictionary defines the word committed as: “to be bound or obligated, as under a pledge to a particular cause, action, or attitude.” When one is committed to Christ, that person has embraced all that He is and all He has instructed us to do. You will note the definition begins with the phrase “to be bound.” Paul often described himself as a bondslave to Christ, always ready to do His bidding no matter what the cost. We read in 2 Corinthians 11:24-28 of the many things Paul suffered because he had committed his life to Christ’s cause. The result was the spread of the Gospel to the far reaches of the known world at that time.
But what about us today? Of all people, those who lead the flock of God today need to be committed to the cause of Christ. The final command our Lord gave us was to make certain that everyone had the opportunity to hear the Gospel. Those that believe are to be discipled until they reach the point they are able to reproduce themselves. That is Christ’s cause. It is easy to become committed to many good things and yet miss the most important thing. So often Satan presents good things to us that can occupy our time and cause us to forget the vow we made when we committed ourselves as servants to our Lord.
The individuals listed on this portion of the BMM website have committed their lives to the cause of Christ. However, for them to be able to go requires people in local churches who are committed to the same cause. May I urge you as pastor of your flock to make sure you are committed to the most important thing? Invite these missionaries into your church, challenge your people to support them, and together may the cause of Christ be advanced as a result of our commitment to Him!
